TLC Timely Tips:
Post-Session Wrap-Up

Hello SOLS Instructors!

You made it to the end of the session! We just have a few suggestions for administrative tasks to make sure that any changes you made or material you created is preserved for the next time you teach this course.

Saving Zoom Recordings

It can be useful to keep Zoom recordings for future use, whether to share with students, TAs, or fellow instructors. However, Zoom automatically sends recordings to the trash 90 days after the recording date, and permanently deletes them after 30 days in the trash.

To avoid losing your recordings, visit the TLC’s Zoom Recordings Storage Management & Export Guide for directions on saving Zoom recordings.

Course Evaluations

Course Evaluations are an important resource for feedback and course improvement. Although evaluations are due before the session ends, the instructor will not have access to their evaluations until after the session when all instructors in the unit have submitted their final grades.

  • You can access your course evaluations dashboard to see all of you present and past course evaluations.
    • Please note that the evaluations platform has migrated to Explorance Blue. If you did not have a chance to download your archived course evaluations, please refer to the Course Evaluations Archive FAQs.
  • For tips on analyzing and incorporating student feedback for the next time you teach this course, visit the TLC guide on Reviewing Past Evaluations.

Ordering and Syncing a Dev Shell

Using a Canvas Development Shell is one way to keep track of changes you make in a course.

  • When ordering a Canvas Shell, select the option to create a Dev/Training shell. Unlike a Live shell, a Dev shell won’t be available to students, so you can adjust settings and content without worrying about students seeing material that you’re still working on.
  • There are a couple different ways you can use your Dev shell:
    • Edit the Dev shell as you spot changes that you’d like to make for the next semester while a course is currently running in the Live shell.
    • Make changes in the Live shell, then copy the Live shell content to the Dev shell at the end of the semester.
      • If you are just changing individual pages or assignments, use the “copy to” function in Canvas to copy the page or assignment to your Dev shell.
    • Note that anything that has the same name will be overwritten by the new version when copying between shells.

Sincerely,
The Teaching and Learning Center team
